Item description
Vintage original 9.75 x 12.75 in. French softcover book from the 1920's French historical war re-enacment, VERDUN, VISIONS D'HISTOIRE (Verdun: Looking at History), released in 1928 by Compagnie Universelle Cinématographique (CUC) and directed by Léon Poirier.
Published in 1928 by Editions Jules Tallandier (Paris), it consists of 64 interior pages featuring black-and-white photographs from the film throughout with various information about the film. It is in fine+ condition.
The Battle of Verdun was one of the most important battles of World War One, and the longest, and the film was shot on location in Verdun and surroundings. According to the director, Léon Poirier, the entire cast and crew of the film were made up of Great War veterans. The only exceptions being female actresses, such as Suzanne Bianchetti and Jeanne Marie-Laurent, and older actors such as André Nox and Maurice Schutz. Antonin Artaud also wasn't a veteran. For the Bois des Caures scene, many actual veterans are used. Among them are Lieutenant Robin and captain Vantroys, who responded Léon Poiriers' call to participate in the film, and they portray themselves in the film.
