Vintage. British Military Maltese Cross with Crown Shield -this is a Pin. Item is 1 7/8" tall by 1 1/2" wide. It is inscribed with the motto: "In this Sign Conquer" and is symbolic for The Royal Army Chaplain's Dept. Excellent condition; cleaned with some patina left, and the blue, red white enameling is intact. History of this motto is that Roman Emperor Constantine looked at the sun and saw a cross of light above it; he declared these words. The Latin for this is "Hoc Signo Vinces" - Motto of the Roman Empire. The metal is bronze, could be brass.
