Item description

Salve Regina ? Hail Queen of Heaven ? based on a Vintage French Holy Card ? Catholic Art Print ? Archival Quality "Salve Regina"Vintage Holy CardArt Deco is the style of art that occurred when our world became the Modern World. It is a simple, clean style, without the ornate ideas of previous generations. It started about 1925, and appears for the next decade or so. Its influences can be seen in things as diverse as the Chrysler Building and the shapes of locomotive engines of that era. This stunning example is one of the few Catholic pieces of Art Deco that we know of. It was published by Boumard-Fils, a family-run Paris publisher of holy cards. They did a series of Catholic Art Deco images, all of them terrific. Salve Regina means Hail, Queen [of Heaven]. Virgo Hostiam Adorans means, Virgin Adoring the Host. The use of the Art Deco style is perfect as it presents precisely that to us, nothing else. Even the colors are perfect and modern, muted as they are, elegant and simple. Although we have seen a lot of their work, there is little on the internet about Boumard-Fils. The University of Dayton gives the latest known date of the company's operation at 1963. This piece, Salve Regina, we are guessing comes from the late 1920s. We think it is out of copyright because it probably was made before the cut off date for US Law to be in the public domain. If it was done a few years after that, we doubt that it was renewed later as it would have needed to be to retain the copyright; and finally, it is not clear at all what happened to the company's assets at the time of dissolution. Very few things from that era are still in copyright, almost nothing, with the exception of a few books and movies and some things that are still in commercial use today, like Mickey Mouse or Time Magazine.** IMPORTANT ** There is about an inch-and-a-third of white space around the picture, so the image is smaller than the paper.- Acid-free paper- Archival pigments, rated to last for generations.- Cardboard backer- Above story of the art- Enclosed in a tight-fitting, crystal clear bag. Thanks for your interest!Sue John"In order to communicate the message entrusted to her by Christ, the Church needs art." ~ St. Pope John Paul IIOriginal image is out-of-copyright.
