This is for a very rare Pendleton blanket commissioned by the State of Arizona to commemorate the state's 150th Anniversary/Centennial. There were 150 of these blankets signed and numbered by the Governor of Arizona. This one is number 72. It is the only one I've ever seen and it is in great condition. There are two nicks on the edge of the red welting. The Arizona Centennial Commission which planned Arizona’s statewide Centennial celebration worked with Pendleton Mills to produce these blankets in the company’s Northwest location in Pendleton, Oregon. Based on the Arizona flag the "front" has a central copper colored star on a deep blue background. The photos show the star much brighter. It is actually a rich brown/rust color like on the reverse. It is excellent craftsmanship. The color will vary depending on your screen settings and the lighting in the photos. I've tried my best to represent it. The five points of the star represent the five “C’s” of Arizona’s economy: copper, cotton, cattle, citrus and climate. The borders of the blanket are inspired by designs from Arizona’s Native and Hispanic cultures. There are 15 diamond shaped elements to represent the state’s 15 counties. The red and yellow pointed borders represent the rays of the sun setting on Arizona. This blanket shows as a great homage to the state's flag(example shown).
