Item description

Eschscholzia californica subsp. mexicana | Mexican Gold Poppy | 10 Seeds Eschscholzia californica subsp. mexicana, commonly known as the Mexican gold poppy, is a vibrant annual or short-lived perennial wildflower native to the southwestern United States and Mexico. Closely related to the California poppy (Eschscholzia californica), this species thrives in arid, sandy, and well-drained soils, often carpeting desert landscapes with brilliant golden-yellow with orange centers. Growing 12–18 inches (30–45 cm) tall, it forms a low, bushy mound of finely divided, bluish-green foliage that provides a delicate, feathery texture. From early spring to late summer, Eschscholzia californica subsp. mexicana produces cup-shaped, four-petaled flowers that open in full sun and close at night or during cloudy weather. These nectar-rich blooms attract bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, supporting local ecosystems.
