Item description

This is a sterling silver dinner knife in the Joan of Arc pattern by International Silver Company. The knife handle is hollow and the blade is stainless steel. The blade style is 9 1/4" (Place Size) Modern Hollow Knife with 4 1/2" handle. Joan of Arc was inspired by designs in the Louis XV style with elegant scrollwork and a sculptured shell at the bottom. There is decoration on the front and back. There is NO monogram on any piece. The knife has "Sterling Handle" on the side of the handle near the blade attachment. My parents purchased this piece as part of a 12 place setting set from the old Denver Dry Goods Company in the early 1960s. I was not a big entertainer, and if we used any of this sterling flatware more than 6 or 8 times, I would be surprised. The set has always spent its life in a silverware box with Pacific Silvercloth. When I opened it recently, the pieces were virtually tarnish free. I do not think the box has been opened for 35 to 40 years. I think earlier pieces might be heavier than pieces produced more recently. The Dinner Knife weighs approximately 68 grams. I gave the pieces a hand polish. They have some rub and use marks. I am downsizing and obviously do not use this lovely silverware. Rather than staying in a box, I hope someone will actually use it. Non-smoking household.
