The first Black American to break the color barrier in professional baseball, Jackie Robinson has one of the most enduring legacies of any public figure. Not only for his talent on the baseball field but for his use of non-violence and political advocacy during the Civil Rights movement while also opening the door to desegregation in schools, other professional sports, and numerous other fields. Robinson began his professional career playing first base for the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947 and would go on to receive numerous accolades during his illustrious career, including Rookie of the Year, six consecutive All-Star seasons, Most Valuable Player, and he would play in six World Series with a win in 1955.
Robinson's contributions on and off the field continue to inspire people across the globe, and this iconic photograph of him in the prime of his professional baseball career captures the essence of his remarkable demeanor and poise. He is pictured here in the dugout with Pee Wee Reese and two other club members in what would become an iconic image that would inspire citizens across the nation to work towards an integrated society and mark one of the most significant cultural milestones in American society during the 1950s and 1960s.
Robinson also became the first black MLB television analyst and would go on to become the Vice President of the Chock Full o'Nuts corporation before his death in 1972. This authentic piece of American baseball history that captures a candid moment of a true icon.
