Item description

This is a hammered patterned bronze tea caddy signed by Shobi Eisuke. Sh?bi Eisuke, known in the West as Jomi, was an extremely successful bronze worker based in Kyoto. He received commissions from the Imperial Household Agency and exhibited frequently at international fairs, winning prizes in Paris in 1878 and 1889. The Sh?bi workshops employed more than 85 independent craftsmen in and around Kyoto, and Eisuke worked with his son, also named Sh?bi Eisuke (active 1881?1911). It looks to have had some repair to the lid at some point however the lid is quite tight and the caddy has no dents, in great condition for it's age. Measures 9.5cm H w/a circumference of 23.5cm Weighs 305gr
