Item description

THE TRAINS WE RODE, Volume II by Lucius Beebe Charles Clegg Howell-North Books, First Edition, 1966 Condition: About Fine in Very Good dust jacket This is the first edition of the second volume of the classic, comprehensive picture survey of American railroad travel. Beebe, whose last book this was, wrote the text; Charles Clegg restored and reproduced the 750 illustrations (there are also 2 new paintings by Howard Fogg). In addition to showcasing the trains themselves (alphabetically, from the Northern Pacific to the Wabash Cannonball), the book also features the amenities aboard the great passenger trains and the notable U.S. railroad terminals. The volume concludes with a special 80-page section called "Way Down East", which deals with old-time New England passenger runs and features amazing photographic material. This copy is in near new condition; the jacket has some edge wear, including a moderate-size tear, and is in an acetate jacket protector (which has a couple of pen marks on the spine). Along with the first volume (though this volume stands on its own just fine), this is a book that every train fanatic will want in his or her collection.
