Item description
This is a UNIQUE, Hard-To-Find, ANTIQUE, EXCELLENT Condition, Hand Crafted "Hand Carved Mahogany Wood Carving African Folk Art Wooden Hunting Game Food Knife Sheath Scabbard Set" handmade in Ghana, Africa in the early-1900s. My friend's grandfather was a British doctor who spent the years 1901-1902 providing medical care in Ghana; this WONDERFUL Knife Sheath was given to him by a patient. Upon his return to England, he displayed it inside a glass cabinet with other African objects from his travels and when he moved to the United States in 1922, it came along with him. Displayed through the early-1960s, it was packed away and forgotten about until it was recently rediscovered; it has been safely and securely stored for over 50 years. Hand Carved, any chipping was done in the carving process as evidenced by the oxidized color of the wood. It is in EXCELLENT Condition with NO marks, stains, odors, chips, cracks or other damage; it comes from a smoke-free, pet-free home. Both GORGEOUS pieces are Hand Carved from a single piece of wood. The Simple rounded-end yet SHARP Wood Knife has a height of approximately 11 inches and measures approximately 1 1/2 inches wide across the blade; it is NOT Marked or Signed. The Simple flat Wood sheath scabbard has a height of approximately 11 1/4 inches and measures approximately 2 3/4 inches wide with wrapped wire around the mid-section to hold the knife securely; it is NOT Marked or Signed.
Intricately hand carved, the TRIBAL Design will make a STATEMENT in any room where this RUSTIC Knife is displayed! With a graceful shape and nicely detailed, PRIMITIVE features, both pieces are ENTIRELY hand carved from a single piece of wood by a SUPERBLY talented Ghanian artist who has created a primitively BEAUTIFUL Tool. The workmanship has WONDERFUL texture and flowing lines, making this Knife Set a truly UNIQUE work of African Folk Art that is both ELEGANT and PRIMITIVE at the same time. Carefully carved from solid African Mahogany Hardwood, this Set features an interesting and original, painstakingly carved shape. Highly collectible, the Knife is thick and well-weighted and the scabbard has a SIMPLE FUN and EXOTIC lined design, making this set a HANDSOME addition to any room. It can easily be hung on the wall or displayed on a stand and is sure to be complimented on by everyone who sees it. It is JUST THE RIGHT WAY to add a touch of African flair and mystique to your home or office décor. Wood knives have been used by indigenous people since the beginning of time for a variety of purposes - butchering large game once it's been taken down; killing small game; spearing fish; cutting/slicing fruit and other natural foods; cutting back long grass to clear a path; it can even be used to pierce a tin can and used to eat the contents. With a broad blade, this Knife and Scabbard are a work of Hand Crafted Ghanian Folk Art!
