Item description

AN ENGLISHMAN'S SIAMESE JOURNALS 1890-1893 Siam Media International Books, Thailand Reprint (no date) of rare 1895 book Condition: Very Good+ to Near Fine In 1890 an English surveyor led an expedition on a small steamer, heading for northern Siam. Despite threats of assassination, death of his colleagues who had fallen into the hands of assassins, fever, heavy rainfall, dense jungles and wild animals, he determined to complete the assignment. His journals kept during 1890-1893 are rare and moving accounts of the lands, tribal communities, their plight and legends, and of some engaging individuals whom he met. This small trade paperback reprints the journals full and unabridged from REPORT OF A SURVEY IN SIAM , published anonymously in London in 1895 for private circulation. Illustrated with many photos taken on the 1890s expedition. Slight cover corner wear, back cover smudging, a few small page corner creases and prices blacked out and erased on the ffep. Scarce title.
