Vintage original 27x41 in. US one-sheet poster from the classic disco-themed musical comedy, THANK GOD IT'S FRIDAY, released in 1978 by Columbia Pictures and directed by Robert Klane. It's Friday and everyone is going to the hot new disco. The Commodores are scheduled to play if Floyd shows up with the instruments and Nicole (Donna Summer) dreams of becoming a disco star. Other characters are there to win the dance contest, or to put a little excitement into a fifth anniversary. The poster features great artwork that was co-deisgned by Michael Kanarek and Terry Lamb and features the signatures in the very bottom center of the artwork area. The image depicts a portrait of the main cast members and performers which includes Valerie Landsburg, Terri Nunn, Chick Vennera, Donna Summer, The Commodores, Jeff Goldblum, Mark Lonow, Andrea Howard, Mews Smalls, Chuck Sacci, and Hilary Beane, all of which are framed on either side of scene on a dance floor as DJ Floyd (Otis Day) reigns down on them from above. Unrestored and folded as originally issued, this vintage original one-sheet is in fine+ condition with a small circular yellow sticker in the right border in the bottom panel (which can be carefully removed) and very small scattered creases from handling. There are no pinholes, tears, stains, or other flaws. This movie represents the only ever on-screen appearance of the group The Commodores in a theatrically-released film. The song "Last Dance", sung by Donna Summer, won the Golden Globe Award in 1979 for "Best Original Song - Motion Picture." The movie's original 1978 first-issue soundtrack album was a three record set, which included two 33-1/3 rpm LP records and one 12-inch single. One of the young stars in the film, Terri Nunn (would go on to front the band Berlin), whose song called "Take My Breath Away" they sung in the later movie, Top Gun (1986), would win the Academy Award for "Best Music - Original Song" in 1987, the statuette though going to Giorgio Moroder (for music) and Tom Whitlock (for lyrics). The name of the disco where the movie is set was The Zoo. The nightclub used for the Zoo was Osko's at 333 South La Cienega Boulevard, in Los Angeles. The club was demolished during the 1980's and a Loehmann's dress store was built in its place. Osko's Disco had 4 dance floors and was famous for being like a labyrinth.
