Item description
Vintage original 27x41 in. US one-sheet poster from the classic 1950's Film-Noir crime drama, THUNDER ON THE HILL, released in 1951 by Universal-International and directed by Douglas Sirk. Based upon the play by Charlotte Hastings, convicted murderess Valerie Carns (Ann Blyth)
is being transported to Norwich to be executed when a flood strands her and her
guards at a convent hospital. Nurse Sister Mary (Claudette Colbert) becomes
convinced of her innocence and sets out to find the real killer.
The image boasts very atmospheric artwork depicting a close shot of Sister Mary Bonaventure (Claudette Colbert) looking very tense as Valerie Carns (Ann Blyth) lets out a scream next to her with an ominous image of a convent hospital to her left. Various scenes from the film are included in the bottom half, all of which are complimented by the poster's blue/green background. Folded as originally issued, this vintage original one-sheet is unrestored in very good condition only with pinholes in each corner; fold line separation down 2/3 of the center fold line; corner and border creases with some small scattered tears and creases around the edges; a 2.5 in. piece of masking tape on the bottom right corner that could be removed if desired; and small areas of fold line separation at the end of some of the other fold lines. The color tints are fresh and vibrant without any signs of fading.
Cast members Michael Pate and Felippa
Rock met while filming and married within the year, remaining so until
Pate's death in 2008. "Lux Radio Theater" broadcast a 60-minute radio
adaptation of the movie on November 9, 1953 with Claudette Colbert reprising
her film role.
