1956 RARE/SCARCE Nichiren Shoshu Gohonzon and 50 similar items

IT HAS NOT BEEN ALTERED WITH A NEW BROCADE OR ALTERED IN ANYWAY TO MAKE IT LOOK NEW** ATTENTION!!! This Sale Is For A RELIGIOUS ITEM. It is an official religious item issued by an official Buddhist School or Organization, Guarantee Genuine. THIS IS NOT A MASS REPRODUCTION OR COPY!!! Offered for your consideration here we have what is known as a Gohonzon Buddhist scroll used in worship in various Nichiren Buddhist Sects. All the Nichiren sects of this Buddhism venerate the founder 13th century priest known as Nichiren Daishonin(Nichiren Shonin in some sects). They focus their prayers towards the scroll and chant the words Nam Myoho Renge Kyo (some sects say Namu followed by Myoho Renge Kyo). Approx size: 6.5 X 12.0 inches. The scroll here is the version used by the Nichiren Shoshu sect of Buddhism. It is known as Okatagi and WAS the scroll given out to the lay membership of Nichiren Shoshu, The Hokkeko AND also to the Soka Gakkai International (at one time when they were still connected to Nichiren Shoshu). Dated 1956, and was given out to the lay membership under the tenure of the 65th High Priest Nichijun Shonin. This Gohonzon has the inscription calligraphy of the 26th High Priest Nichikan. It should be noted that the calligraphy of this Gohonzon is quite different from the SGI's version present day Gohonzon (the SGI also uses the Nichikan inscription, but it has been edited.......as some say). The scroll is in Very Good Condition inspite of its age with still some crispness to the scroll, there are some wrinkles, No tears etc (see scans). There is darkening on the scroll due to use of incense burning during prayer. These issue of Gohonzon are becoming more and more very hard to come by. A LITTLE HISTORY: Gohonzon's given out to the lay membership during 65th High Priest Nichijun had various different brocades. This was due to the very intense proselytizing (Shakubuku) campaigns done under the leadership of then Soka Gakkai (SGI) second President, Josei Toda. The Soka Gakkai had many new people join during the 1950's and the head temple Taisekiji could barely keep up with issues of Gohonzon. ***NOTE: This is an original Nichiren Shoshu mandala.....It has not been altered in anyway which unlike some other's being listed that have been remounted onto newer brocades or cleaned. The authenticity is called into question as they appear to be too "NEW" mint condition as they say in their listings. Authentic scrolls will almost always come in very apparently used condition with apparent scent of incense. Read the listing descriptions well.*** A very beautiful Gohonzon scroll you have to see and appreciate!!!
