Item description
Eagle Hose No. 2
Many
of the early volunteer fire companies /fire houses/hose
battalions/brigades, and later, the municipal fire departments would
issue their own fire plaques/ marks. The most recognizable and most
frequently used ones were those based on the Maltese Cross Design.
However, some based theirs on insurance company fire marks.
The
Eagle Hose Company Number 2 was organized on December 18, 1911 at the
home of Mr. William East, by 20 young men. There was only one company
in the Borough of West Berwick, Pennsylvania at the time. These young
men saw the need for a second company and accordingly created the
Eagle Hose Co. No. 2
This
mark is of heavy (over 5.0 lbs.) iron construction, measuring
approximately 8.75" X 11.25" and is an early John Wright
casting. It is a black mark with the image of an eagle, based on the
Insurance Company of North America (INA) fire mark. It is in good
condition with minimal paint loss and a vintage/antique look and
feel of its appearance.
This
is a really nice item and would make an excellent addition for any
collector of fire marks, firefighting or insurance memorabilia, or a
great gift for a fireman,
