Vintage Hand Painted Wooden Box Japan 6 x 5 and 49 similar items

This is a very unusual box...It is older...and the subject matter on the top looks very abstract. The box is black...there is a lock...but no key. The design is done in gold and red. Each time I look at it I see something different...but there is Man in a gold kimono getting ready to cross a red arched bridge. This hand painted box is preloved...but it looks perfect to me. I ship from a non smoking house, but I don't know the story of these items before I get them.
