Item description
THE URANIUM MURDERS
By John E. Barry
London: John Long Limited, (1951).
First edition, first printing.
"First published 1951" statement to the copyright page.
SIGNED by the author with the salutation "Best wishes from the author" to the front end-paper.
Striking uncredited jacket art depicts an underground mine scene, a body revealed in flash-light beam, and two fedora-wearing square-jawed men.
Set mostly (with a few scenes in Los Angeles) in an out-of-the-way small southern California town where the focal point is an old Mindoro Gold mine containing newly discovered uranium.
Sheriff Dem Deakins and F.B.I. agent George Gregory pair up to uncover a fast-moving plot and a murderer.
Elusive mystery especially SIGNED!
Two green discount marks to the lower page edges, a touch of rubbing to the lower spine edge and corner tips, else tight and very good in nice blue linen with black embossed titles and a hangman's noose illustration to the spine; in a fair to good only dust jacket with a 1.5" long piece missing from the lower spine panel, clear tape reinforcing at the verso of the shelf-edges, clear (yellowed) tape reinforcing to the upper and lower spine ends and front corners, separation at the rear spine fold, rub-wear and nicks to the flap folds and shelf-edges; original printed price 9s 6d net still intact to the front inner flap.
