Original Brazilian Vintage Collection of 16 Thighs ex votos (milagros) from the Northeast Region All authentic and collected by Folk Art Museum Curator during trips to Brazil This is a fantastic and rare ex voto lot from northeastern Brazil. The ex votos, or milagres (Portuguese for milagros) in the predominately Afro-Brazilian area of northern Brazil are uniquely carved from wood and frequently reflect the art of West Africa. The wooden figures, like most ex votos and milagros, are commissioned by a devotee and brought to a church as an offering for a promise fulfilled, frequently for health. These ex votos depict thighs parts, perhaps reflective of the owner's lower members health problems. These beautiful and rare figures, carved from tropical wood, would be a great addition to any collection of devotional art!
