A spectacular and highly collectible piece of Natural Grasshopper Turquoise Navajo jewelry art by famous award winning Navajo artisan Shane Hendren to add to your collection! Versatile for various looks! ONE-OF-A-KIND piece never to be duplicated!
** Grasshopper Turquoise is from a Nevada mine located south of Tonopah in the Southern part of the state. The Grasshopper Turquoise mine is a very low production hat mine (this is a term for a very small mine as you can cover the mines production with your hat). Lander Blue is also considered a hat mine as it only yielded a few hundred pounds of material. The Grasshopper mine is so small you could hardly fit a mid size car in the main pit. The colors of this mine range from a beautiful light spider web blue to an intense faustite green ( Faustite is the zinc rich analogue of turquoise having almost four times as much zinc than copper in its crystal structure). Some examples of mines that produce Faustite turquoise are the Carico lake mine and the Orvil Jack mine. Faustite Turquoise is very rare. As a result, the turquoise from the Grasshopper mine is highly collectible and the fact that this turquoise is small production and little known, makes it extremely collectible. Materials have ranged from bright green with tight webbing to olive green with rust colored globules. The globules are sometimes referred to as "giraffe spots". **
