Sow

Sow seeds in spring after last frost or in early fall, Germinate at 55-75 degrees F .Direct seed watercress about 5 mm (1/4") deep and 1 cm (1/2") apart, ideally in full sun near clear running water. Thin plants to 10 cm (4") and keep very well watered.

Plant

Watercress thrives in cold running water along streambanks in temperate zones. Can also be grown in moist soil with a little shade in the garden or in containers.watercress is practical on both a large-scale and a garden-scale. Being semi-aquatic, watercress is well-suited to hydroponic cultivation, thriving best in water that is slightly alkaline. Watercress does not thrive in acidic soil, so spread enough lime in the growing area to bring the pH as close to 7.0 as possible. Well finished compost is the other trick that will keep watercress growing rapidly. The low light levels and cool temperatures seem to be ideal.

Harvest

watercress close to soil level when stems are about 8-10 inches long, using scissors to cut the leaves and tender stems. Never harvest more than a third of any herbaceous plant at one time.As sprouts, the edible shoots are harvested days after germination.
