Bewick, Thomas, MEMOIR OF THOMAS BEWICK WRITTEN BY HIMSELF 1822-1828, Carbondale IL: Southern Illinois University Press, 1961.  1ST American Ed. navy blue cloth hardcover w/gilt titling to spine, 8vo (8.75 x 5.75”), Fine / Fine, [xx], 274 pp.

This book is part of a series from the University of So. Illinois known as the Centaur Classics.  Frontis of Bewick as well as a beautiful vignette on the title page, wood-cut illustrations throughout; Bewick is best known for his A History of British Birds. That book was the forerunner to the modern field guides. This book is, of course, the story of his life. There is a selection of many woodcuts at the rear of this book from Bewick’s “Quadrupeds and Birds.”  Quite the distinctive book indeed – a marvelous segment of Captured Tyme!
