This will be over a lot of your heads but maybe someone else knows or is having this problem.
Bonanza does not answer support emails so we’re making this huge site error public as this SEO issue should be effecting the quality of the entire site.
This is mainly for replens, items you sell forever and the listing URL should not change at all.
The link should ALWAYS be the same so that once Google indexes it, it stays indexed and gains higher results.
We noticed in our “Views” one of our top selling items had 2 places with different view counts.
Then we noticed the URL structure was by item title and some random number. And this is where the problem began.
We changed the title a tiny bit(normal for any eCommerce store) and Bonanza decided to give it a whole new URL and number.
So the dead page is still there in Google as it used to be a good result for buyers.
And now Bonanza is sending Google searchers to an old dead link.
Nothing for sale. As a buyer, they learn real quick when they get sent to a dead page the first time, not to click there again. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me can’t be fooled again.
This is bad for the user, causes an immediate “bounce” and deranks Bonanzas entire site as Google metrics prove a “bad user experience”.
Basic SEO stuff they should not be getting wrong.
And of course the actual item on a new URL is not ranking because it was given a new URL. Bad for our sales, bad for Bonanza pocket as well.
What Bonanza should be doing, like eBay, is a simple permanent URL with an item number.
This stays the same no matter what updates to the item must be made over time and the ranking only gets stronger with time. No dead pages, no bad user experience, bounces, no deranking.
However, if they like their weird URL structure, that’s fine.
They need to be doing an automatic 301 Redirect for that old link when you make an edit so Google knows the URL changed and stops sending searchers to a dead link. Again, this causes a user bounce(immediate leave) and hurts all of Bonanza when the searches are full of bounces(which they are as we discovered).
The truth is this is basic SEO and Bonanza should know this.
They should even be paying me fore finding such a huge problem with their site which is surely causing lower ranks site wide with Google. Imagine all the bounces from empty pages?
To see if this is happening to you go to your stats, views, check some top selling items or anything you may have edited. If you see it twice in there with different URLs, one is dead, no photo, nothing for sale, user bounce.

I remember a long time back asking for a feature that would operate our booths like a shopping cart software, where if something sold out it would leave the item “out of stock” and hide it from the site’s search until we changed the quantity back to positive. The link would stay alive and indexed, but you wouldn’t find it in a booth or site search. I had thousands of items and frequently had the same ones replenished for years, but each time had to create a new product.
Sounds like an issue to still be resolved.
