1932 Vintage Cartoon Art Postcard QSL Card W8ESP
1 cent Postage Stamp Franklin Classic 1930's cartoon character on his knees begging for QSL back. An older gentleman, with a receding hairline, and wearing a jacket (notice the cuff-links on his shirt), perhaps a clue as to "George Bondra's" age.
The handwritten information is dated July 11, 1932, and the personal message reads" Sur gld to be ur first qso om & hpe C U agn"
W3CPA (Whitey) was only 19 years old at the time, and probably just set up his Amateur Radio gear. We thought about keeping this one, but I am old too, and won't be around all that long, and I know Whitey would have liked someone to have this card, someone who knows the significance of this card, and your "first" QSO.
Along the bottom front edge is printed the senders address and name: George Bondra from East Stroudsburg, Penna." and below that "A. .M Seldon, Hillcrest, Cranesville, Pa."
The back (address side) has the pre-printed and framed word "Postcard" with the printer's name (Hillcrest Print, Cranesville, Pa", along the far left edge.
Postmarked over the 1 cent Franklin stamp, East Stroudsburg PA July 12 1932
CONDITION: Being his "first" the card has suffered some minor wear, with pin holes in all four corners, if looking at the front, the top left corner is torn, and by the size of the pin holes, it looks like this card may have been pinned and re-pinned a few times.
There is a minor smudge on the bottom right corner over the "73".
The 1 cent Franklin postage stamp is in fair condition, perforated on t3 sides, and although postmarked over 2/3rds of the face, is still discernible.
Edges and corners show very minor discolorations (darkening) with no creases, wrinkles, or dings.
Some of the handwritten message is smeared, probably due to not allowing the fountain pen ink to completely dry before handling it.
(... for those of you too young to remember, we did not have fancy-shmancy ball point/gel/felt tip pens and had to wait for the ink to dry or risk smearing it.)
