A vintage 2-1/4" pinback for the California State Polytechnic College, San Luis Obispo 25th Anniversary Poly Royal. The Poly Royal buttons were first introduced in 1958 by the Cal Poly Collegiate Future Farmers of America.

The original button, the Poly Royal Queen holding a T-square while sitting on top of a horse represented the 3 divisions at Cal Ply in 1958 - Agriculture, Engineering and Math. In green and gold.

Of Cal Poly's many campus traditions, the best known and loved is Open House, formerly known as Poly Royal, the annual campus event that celebrates the university's learn-by-doing philosophy. The first open house event, the Farmer's Institute and Basket Picnic, was held May 24, 1904. By the 1920s, the Framers' Institute has disappeared, perhaps because of funding issues.

After the war, the Poly Royal resumed. A popular custom was the selection of the Poly Royal Queen and her attendants who reigned over the annual festivities. Jane Horton Bailey of San Luis Obispo was voted the first Ply Royal Queen at the second annyal Ply Roayl in 1934.
