The Virgin Mary – Ghent Altarpiece – Jan van Eyck – Medieval/Renaissance – Catholic Art Print – 8.5x11"

What we love about the Ghent Altarpiece, finished about 1432, is that it’s kind of a turning point between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. It still has the joy of the faith from the older times, but it also has the human details and absolute skill mastery of what will become the competitive genius of Renaissance painting. We love this luminous piece. It is attributed to the Early Flemish painters and brothers Hubert and Jan van EyckThe Latin above Mary's head, HEC E SPECIOSIOR SOLE + SVP OEM STELLARV DISPOSICOEM LVCI, is from the Book of Wisdom, 7:29: “She is more splendid than the sun; she outshines all the constellations; she is more radiant than light itself.” – 8.5 x 11" acid-free paper– Archival pigments, rated to last for generations.– Cardboard backer– Above story of the art– Enclosed in a tight-fitting, crystal clear bag.** IMPORTANT ** There is about an inch-and-a-third of white space around the picture, so the image is smaller than the paper.
